Volunteer Opportunities

Community Action of Minneapolis’ volunteer program allows people to join in the mission of improving people’s lives through a variety of opportunities. Volunteers may host donation drives for family household supplies, work one-on-one tutoring youth and teens, teach life skills classes, and much more.

The possibilities are endless! One-time and long-term opportunities and everything in-between are available for groups and individuals.

Data Entry Assistant

Position Objective:
Data Entry Assistants are an important part of our organization. These volunteers enter data into our database system with a user friendly interface to Microsoft Access.


Benefits:
You’ll gain experience with modern office equipment and get involved and make a major contribution to our organization. You’ll gain satisfaction in helping a small non-profit group achieve its goals while working with fun, nice people in a small office environment. Plus, for each day that you work, you’ll be reimbursed round-trip light rail or bus fare (if you are not already reimbursed by another program).


Responsibilities:
Enter program related data for statistical purposes.


Qualifications:
To become a Data Entry Assistant, you must be accurate and conscientious and have a strong desire to learn on the computer. Prior data entry experience and exposure to Microsoft Office Manager/Access are preferred but not necessary.


Orientation & Training:
Community Action Orientation


Success Measures:
Number of entries completed in timely manner.


Commitment:
Ideally, we’d like to find someone who can volunteer several days a week every week for several months (in fact, we’d be delighted!). But we’re realists and will be happy to work with someone who can volunteer regularly and frequently over a period of several months.


Work Site: Administration Office at 401 2nd Avenue in downtown Minneapolis.  This position is available weekdays only.

Office Assistant

Position Objective
:
Office Assistants help make the office run smoothly to enable us to reach out to more people and become organized. They answer telephones, compile kits and lists, send mail and faxes, make photocopies, and help with any other tasks that may arise.

Qualifications:
To become an Office Assistant, you must be organized and willing to learn.  Prior office experience is helpful but not necessary.

Work Site: We need people for weekdays; 5 days a week would be a dream come true! The more days you can give us each week, the better suited you’ll be to fulfilling our needs. You’ll work at one of our Minneapolis locations, based on need.  This position is available weekdays only.

Project Assistant to Director of Volunteers

Position Objective
:
These office volunteers facilitate the job of the Director of Children and Family Development by handling correspondence and phones, preparing reports and generally keeping the process organized. There are many projects, several involving the computer.

You’ll gain experience with modern office equipment and get involved and make a major contribution to our organization. You’ll gain satisfaction in helping a non-profit group achieve its goals while working with fun, nice people in a small office environment. Plus, for each day that you work 3 hours or more, you’ll be reimbursed round-trip light rail or bus fare (if you are not already reimbursed by another program).


Responsibilities:
Orientate new volunteers to the agency.


Qualifications:
To become a Project Assistant to the Director of Children and Family Development, you must have good telephone and organizational skills, a willingness to learn, commitment and follow-through. You must also have computer experience, particularly with Windows.
