family-on-bikes.jpgThe Children and Family Development Division provides programs and services that promote, empower, and nurture families and communities towards self-sufficiency utilizing a holistic and strength-based approach.

Self-Sufficiency Program (SSP)

The Self-Sufficiency Program (SSP) is a supportive service to assist families with significant or multiple barriers to reaching self-sufficiency.

SSP is not accepting enrollments at this time. 

Community Empowerment Program

The Community Empowerment Program is committed to improving the lives of low-income residents of Minneapolis through providing education and information on issues that will directly or indirectly affect them personally or the community in which they live.

Power Workshops

Power Workshops are free, these are interactive training classes on subjects ranging from personal health and neighborhood safety to career planning and financial management that promote self-sufficiency. Our power workshops will help attendees to better manage their finances, households, employment, and reach their full potential. Workshops will be offered monthly and are open to anyone interested in learning important life skills. Registration and income eligibility is required.

Power Shop Guidelines & Information:

  • Power Shops are provided to Minneapolis residents whose household gross income is 200% or below federal poverty guidelines.
  • Spaces are limited and not guaranteed.  You will receive a phone call within 48 hours of registration, confirming your spot. 
  • Please make sure to arrive at least 10-15 minutes early.  Out of respect for other attendees and the speaker, those arriving late may not be let in.  If something comes up and you are not able to make it to a power shop, please call (612) 334-3672 as soon as possible to cancel your reservation.
  • At this time we are not able to provide child care.
